20 minute handicap tournament.

There was a real buzz about the club on Tuesday night, the like of which we had not seen for a couple of years when we last hosted two matches on the same evening. It was great to see about 15 players at the club once again. Not everyone could stay the full session, some having other commitments , some coming to pay their subs [cheap at £3 !] some new players checking us out before going for an Indian meal.

However by the end of the evening just about everyone said they’d had a great time. We organised a 20 min handicap tournament which included moans from Gary and Martin {the only 2 who had to manage the 18min to 2min handicap.}  and lots of banter as the pairings were announced. 12 players started the tournament and 8 were still there at the end of the 6 rounds. The newer players who have only played on the net found the use of real pieces on a board with a real clock challenging to start with but were soon in the swing of things. Most people won at least one game and the handicapper thought he’d done a good job when most of the players were not satisfied with some of his pairings!

The final scores were not important. Thanks to Martin who paired a couple of rounds while I had to disappear for 20 mins. he took  some of the flack.

Next Tuesday 8th Feb we have a match scheduled at home to Barnby Dun who at the moment are struggling to get a team. If they are unable to come, and we should know by the end of the weekend , I shall organise a 5 minute tournament instead. Look out for an email.

Richard.
