Final 2022-23 Summary 27 April 2023
Barnsley won the Doncaster League by winning their last match 2.5-1.5 against Dons B to decide the Doncaster League title.

In the Doncaster Bell Trophy (rapid play) Barnsley lost their last match 3.5-4.5 against Dons A to come third with 9 points having won 4 drawn 1 and lost 5 matches.
Barnsley won the final of the Sheffield Plate (Sam Haystead Memorial Trophy) by beating Worksop 3.5-2.5 in a close match with five draws and one win.

In Sheffield League Division 2 Barnsley A finished third in the table on game points against Hillsborough A after losing to them 1.5-4.5 in our final game of the season.
We scored 18 points having played 12 won 6, drawn 2, Lost 2. Hillsborough A finished second with 18 points like us.
In Sheffield League Division 4 Barnsley B came third with 20 points having played 16, Won 8 , Drawn 4, Lost 4 finishing one point behind second placed Chesterfield C.
Sheffield League
Barnsley entered a team in the Sheffield 2023 Summer League captained by Tom Edwards.
We were entered into Division 3.
The Summer League ran from May to September. Teams consisted of 4 to 6 boards.

The Summer League proved a good match experience for newer members before the main season starts in September.
Doncaster League Champions 2022-2023
Barnsley became the 2022/2023 Doncaster League champions with a final tough 2.5-1.5 match victory over Dons B.
Barnsley won 9/10 matches losing only one match to league contenders Don A who pushed Barnsley to the last match of the Doncaster League season.
Congratulations to captain Richard Hall and all the players who played to make this possible
Sheffield Plate (Sam Haystead Memorial) Winners 2022-2023
Barnsley won the Sheffield Plate with three tough victories beating Hillsborough 3.5-2.5 in the quarter finals, beating Nomads 2 4-2 in the semi final and beating Worksop 3.5-2.5 in the final with five draws and one win.

Thanks to team captain Peter Micklethwaite and all the players who played to help Barnsley being winners.

Barnsley Chess Club Championship 2023
The Barnsley 2023 Chess Club Championship has now concluded
In round one all the games had decisive results with white winning 5/6 games.
After round two we have three joint leaders on 2/2. Andrew Butterworth, Richard Hall and Ken Hunter.
After round three we have the same three joint leaders on 2.5/3. Andrew Butterworth, Richard Hall and Ken Hunter. These are closely followed by three other contenders Richard Desmedt, Chris Bailey and Rob Vincent on 2/3 . An interesting last two rounds is in prospect.
After round four we have four joint leaders going into round five. These are Andrew Butterworth, Ken Hunter, Richard Hall and Rob Vincent. A tense final round should ensue.
In the final round a white win by Andrew Butterworth secured him the winner of the 2023 Barnsley Chess Club Championship with 4/5 points. Joint second on 3.5 points each were Richard Hall, Richard Desmedt and Rob Vincent.
